Overview
This trek leads to the huge glacier flowing down from the massive flanks of Kanchenjunga (8586m), the third highest mountain in the world. It is a relatively unexplored area, which has only just been opened for organized trekking groups. The early stages of the trek traverses through Himalayan lowland regions with the classic scenery of rice paddies, terraced fields, icy streams, trailside teahouses and small clusters of the whitewashed houses of Newar, Rai and Chettri communities.
Halfway the trek, the trail leads up to high country exploring the Yalung glacier with inspiring views of Kanchenjunga and its neighboring peaks: Kabru 7266m, Talung 7262 m and Jannu 7618 m. The summit of Kanchenjunga forms the border of Nepal ans Sikkim in India. This is a trek of great cultural diversity and interest from Hinduism to Buddhism, wild animals, flora and fauna.
Spring: April through May: is the most preferred time to visit this area because of its dense Rhododendron forests and varieties of alpine flowers. Autumn: between October and early November when the weather is clearest and the hills are lush green.
